Three Reasons Why I Am Cooler Than You.

A very short list.

1. I got sent an advance of the 30th anniversary edition of The Raincoats' first album this morning, sleeve-notes as written for the 14th anniversary edition, bonus live video from back in the day. I know this album so well, it's so ingrained upon my very existence, I can stare at its sleeve and mentally replay each song note-for-note, strained harmony-for-strained harmony... and hear it slightly differently each time.

2. I got sent the sublime, inexplicably resonant, Soundman Shots: The Caribou & Downbeat Story box-set collection of 50s Jamaican ska, rock steady and calypso, at the end of 48 hours of solidly listening to same from the Internet. Among early Laurel Aitken sides of early Laurel Aitken doing his inimitable thing, there's Sonny Knight and his still hilarious, mostly instrumental, tribute to the local law enforcement force 'But Officer', Shirley & Lee swooning their way through 'Let The Good Times Roll', Count Lasha camping it up on 'Calypso Cha Cha' and only Lloyd bloody Price! Man, this is perfect driving music for Brisbane - and then some. Isaac's already singing along with some of the choicer cuts.

3. I got sent a copy of Sonic Youth's latest album that I still haven't listened to. (Damn. Please don't be reading this, Chris.)

I'm very curious to know what you'll think about this one. I won't write what I think about it here and now, but... let's leave it at that!

Cool that you're cool man, I thought Australia was giving you a hard time with the weather...

  5. It's no good. You're too late Tom! I had a fit of conscience last night after I typed that sentence and gave it a thorough going over today.

    And it's ace!

P.S. I would copyright 3-word reviews but damn it if they don't seem to be all over every promotional material around.
