ET Recommends - 54: Velociraptor

There's a dinosaur exhibition down the Science Museum on the Southbank: and Isaac's favourite part of it is the video of the dinosaurs singing, "Danger, danger/Velociraptor/Danger, danger/He's got the hook claw".

Joanna Newsom live @ The Tivoli

Joanna Newsom played a few weeks back in Brisbane.

On occasion, she bordered on the magical: her voice slightly more reminiscent of Kate Bush then I've recall it being before: the song about the daddy long-legs being particularly charming and lengthy (I might have dreamed the subject matter): the drummer in particular bringing his instrument alive through simple use of elegance and silence, the way most drummers are entirely unable to do: the new songs (and the evening was stuffed full of them) boding well for her forthcoming TRIPLE album. I stayed the length, and that's rare.

ET Recommends - 36: Kitchen's Floor

As I said somewhere else just now, I keep forgetting how much I remain in love with the thrill of live music.

(interlude)

Oh yeah, The Legend! + The Deadnotes played last night too.

ET Recommends - 35: Blank Realm

I so rarely go out to shows any more, I keep forgetting how much in love I remain with the thrill of live music.

Vivian Girls, last night

First, a brief shout-out to Brisbane ladies, Feathers. Only saw half a number, following a rather traumatic 12-hour car drive from near Rockhampton to be at the show, and it seemed a little (dare we say) post-Vivian Girls, but what I saw was easily enough to intrigue. Seemed like my kind of folk. Possibly. Oh, whatever.

Why local bands stay local (part two)

Andrew McMillen

A cautionary tale from Brisbane writer and blogger Andrew McMillen.
