Join The Dots - 2: Blur + Wings

This is a belated continuation of an old series that never took off. Can't imagine it will after this entry either. Oh well...

Anyone else spot the thudding great similarities between Blur's 1999 Number 2 'Tender' - blink slowly, and you'd be forgiven for mistaking it for Spiritualized's sentimental tripe-gospel - and Macca and company's still horrendous chart topper from 1977, 'Mull of Kintyre'? (The latter is still the UK's best-selling non-charity single.) Man alive, that song haunted more school-yard nightmares than even Margaret Thatcher, Milk Snatcher.

The accompaniment is almost identical.

Five minutes into the former, and it's as much as I can do not to start frantically making intricate hand-signs in the air in a futile attempt to ward off the bagpipes.

P.S. As John Robb rightly points out on Twitter, both tunes also share the 'Hey Jude' chords...
