It's Saturday. This week's Top 10 is all about the girls. And I'm still in love with the idea of Karen O as perfect pop star.
1. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Soft Shock (from It's Blitz)
Jesus, they're so great around an acoustic guitar.
2. The Deadnotes + The Legend! - "I Don't Want To Know" (from Volume 6)
Three vocals, anger and a killer trumpet.
3. Ramones - "Blitzkrieg Bop" (from Ramones)
Isaac had picked up on the "Hey ho, let's go" before the song had even ended, and spent the rest of the morning singing it. Sure, I was a proud parent.
4. Jonathan Richman & The Modern Lovers - "I'm Straight" (from Precise Modern Lovers)
Goddamn. Pure class. "They can't paint/They can't draw/When the battle comes, they'll fail." His railing at hippy Ernie makes me think of all the asshole grunge rockers of the early 90s.
5. Candy Claws - "Lantern Fish" (from In The Dream Of The Sea Life)
Nice to see Marine Girls aren't forgotten (although, musically, this sweet gentle wash of sound is way more Panda Bear than early 80s lo-fi minimalism)
6. The Lost Girls - "Kick Him Out" (from Logic)
Makes my old heart glad.
7. Donna Lynn - "I'd Much Rather Be With The Girls" (from Girl Group Sounds Lost & Found: One Kiss Can Lead To Another)
Who wouldn't be?
8. The Donnas - "Teenage Rules" (from Greatest Hits Vol. 16)
Speaking of which...
9. The Girls - "Chico's Girl" (from Girl Group Sounds Lost & Found: One Kiss Can Lead To Another)
Speaking of which...
10. Vivian Girls - "When I'm Gone" (from Everything Goes Wrong)
Speaking of which... They'll be here in September! And I'm one of the supports!

Hooray for Candy Claws, thanks Everett!
