The shortlist has just been announced.
Dum de dum de dum de dum de dum de dum. (Idly taps fingers on work surface while waiting for next Deadnotes song to start.) Dum de dum de dum de dum de dum. Dum de dum de dum de deum de dum. Dum de dum de dum de deum de dum. Hey, you heard the Andrew Wilson compilation Amateurism on Guy Blackman's excellent Melbourne label, Chapter Music? Man, it's great. From Brisbane, during the 80s - guest appearances from various Go-Betweens and Triffids, his band Four Gods' first single came out on the Go-Betweens label in 1980. Anyhow, same way a few years back reissues from The Beakers and The Blackouts provided a welcome illumination into Seattle's post-punk history, so does this compilation. Similar kind of music, too. Highly recommended. One song even sounds like my absolute faves, The Gla*o Babies. Dum de dum de dum de dum de dum. Dum de dum de dum de dum de dum. Dum de dum de dum de dum de dum.
Sweet.

Oh fuck, everyone's clicking on this blog entry now. You didn't really think I'd be interested in some lame-ass award ceremony, now did you? Aren't you aware of my well-documented hatred for gradings and numerical analysis of music? Ah jeez.... OK. Speech Debelle will win it cos she's released the 'best' album. Unless she doesn't. In which case someone else can call themselves proud winners of the Mercury Barclaycard Prize (wot, no music?). That's something you'd really want to stick on your wall: corporate approval.
