Song of the day - 86: Cake

Jeanette + Jimi

This song is lifted directly from my Great 60s Pop blog to counter the malicious rumour spread about by Lisa Miller with her cover of same that it's simply a dreary, insipid, polite radio-friendly, breathy (OH MY GOD!, hands to face) tune to drink overpriced coffee in Melbourne's lanes to.

The video to the original song, of course, features perhaps the greatest dance routine in the history of girl groups.

  1. Are you on drugs and where can I get them? When did Lisa Mitchell cover either of those songs? I think you should go back to Reading and push Kurt's wheelchair around the block a couple of times. It's a shame when credibility expires and you're left as an empty husk.

  2. 'You Can Have Him' is on Lisa Mitchell's new album. The other video is there because I like it.

@Martin_Carr They look like one of those girls you used to see at parties slumped in a corner with cider smelling sick down their front..

@camera_obscura_ COR. RT @everetttrue brighten yr day up with the greatest 60s girl group video ever http://tinyurl.com/2euhq2d

  6. I really, really thought you were on psychedelics or senile when I read this post but now I find you're dyslexic (not good for a journalist). It's Lisa MILLER who's covered You Can Have Him (it's on Car Tape 2) not Lisa MITCHELL. I suggest new reading glasses or a couple of weeks on a health farm.

  7. Um, is my face red. Actually, I own FOUR different pairs of prescribed glasses so... fair call. Post accordingly amended.

Bet Lisa wasn't even off her tits on anti-epilepsy medication when she recorded it. Lightweight.

I need to check out the albums - presumably their baroque stuff is like The Carousel, except not disappointing after the Razorcuts.
