Kudos to Michaela over at Tumblr for turning me onto this.
I know nothing - nothing - about this song whatsoever. The guitar owes something to Nick Zinner, and the male/female vocal interplay a little to Be Your Own Pet (I think I have the right band there), and it's lovely and abrasive and short, and precedes this song from Kitchen's Floor on the mix-tape of semi-obscure Australian music Michaela has compiled for your benefit. Damn, but it's just too good (as they say in Brisbane).
If anyone fancies sending me this album, that would be lovely.

try here, sure they'd have copies left: http://www.uar.com.au/uar
ReplyDeleteps: i always thought of these guys more in the vein of teenage jesus and/or general no wave-y goodness, the drumming was amazing, as was the overall effect. zinner and be yr own pet seem unflattering comparisons, although zinner does some great gtr and i never bothered to listen to the latter as i suspected they would be rubbish. maybe now i will be inclined to firm up this suspicion to see what yr getting at.
ReplyDeletepps: you'll now find michael bray, gtr and mastermind of JJ, playing on some psychedelic horseshit records and living in nyc.

Thanks Everett! Saw them years ago at The Espy in Melbourne supporting Bird Blobs....and they really impressed me. But then they disappeared off my radar. Thought they must have broken up. Will have to investigate. xxx
