My Last FM Top 20 (week 12)

Ah but my entire being has been destroyed by the immaculate compilation A John Waters Christmas - in particular, the uber-cutsie 'Santa Claus Is A Black Man' by Akim & The Teddy Vann Production Company - and I can barely function right now, but damn it. Here it is anyway. Hope you can dig it. (The R means I was listening to it for work-related reasons, and clicking on the hypertext will take you through to the review - usually.)

5R (5) I Heart Hiroshima
6 (-) The Specials

so...um...editors are like a poor man's version of a poor man's version of a band that ceased to exist roughly 30 years ago?

I couldn't be bothered to follow the line through to Joy Division.... Interpol do a better version of Joy Division than Editors do of Interpol if that helps! self-perpetual rock and roll!!

Editors doing Interpol doing Joy Division is something like Nickelback doing Bush doing Nirvana...

Oh, and I forgot to mention, Joy Division are a poor man's Johann Sebastian Bach.

First version I heard was Inspiral Carpets around 1986, at Royton Cricket Club I think. A year or two later I bought some 80s reunion live tape on ROIR, because it was the first ? And The Mysterians product I'd actually seen. It was all orange, in an orange case, with an orange cassette shell etc.

yeah, my wife knows the Rugs' version best as well. What the hell. Clint's keyboard was pure Mysterians - it was the reason I liked the Rugs so.

it's essentially a Fun Boy Three demo from 1981, Terry, Lynval & Neville, although they hadn't left The Specials yet!

In terms of riffs "96 Tears" fits real well with "I'm Waiting For The Man" for a superb medley.
