About Me

The following is reprinted from Unconvention Brisbane.

Everett has the rare distinction of having had articles turned down by the following Australian publications: The Monthly, The Age, Courier-Mail, Sydney Morning-Herald, J Mag, Rolling Stone, The Vine, Crikey, Vice. He has recently been called “curmudgeonly” by Carrie Brownstein of Sleater-Kinney and “a dweller on the fringes of society” by the moderator of the panel of judges for the Australian Music Prize, and been told bluntly by Brisbane sweethearts An Horse that “we don’t like you”. Oh, and former Oasis manager Alan McGee broke 30 years of silence towards him a few months ago by stating bluntly, “the main difference between you and me is 30 million pounds”.

He is currently living in Brisbane, where he is studying for a PhD in online music criticism in the doubtless vain hope that, at the end of it, he – like a thousand other media students – will be afforded an entry-level place into the music industry.

He is not a fan of sports in general, US bands from the 90s reforming or the 00s approach to music criticism – and on occasion he’s been heard to mutter darkly about how music criticism should be, at the very least, “semi-autonomous”.

He hates – and has always hated – rock biographies, a fact his detractors point to with some glee.

He thinks Norman Mailer was a cunt.

  1. The Daniel Johnston on-the-road article that appeared on this blog. I thought that at the least the style it was written in might appeal to them. They were cordial, but not at all interested.

  4. Does anyone not think Norman Mailer was a cunt? Even his fans? Especially his fans.
