Just pulled this one in as a last-minute replacement for my new Bust column...and couldn't resist sharing them with you, they're so great - like a sharp-tongued, velvet-voiced Oakland CA sister band to my forgotten Canadian heartthrobs The Diskettes. (And they even have a song about Seattle!)
Here's what I wrote:
THE HOT TODDIES
This Oakland, CA four-piece boast some beautiful doo-wop harmonies and beach party melodies: bubblegum pop like the 60s and K Records wrote it – but bubblegum pop with a sharp tongue that tells of wet dreams and surf paradises, like the Pink Ladies from Grease reinvented for the Internet age. Every town should have one.
Think: The Fizzbombs, Olivia Newton-John, The Penguins
